Here are some of the Budapest New Year Parties (Szilveszteri Party) on Dec 31 2012. The list is far from comprehensive, basically all major pubs, bars in Budapest, clubs, cafes and Budapest restaurants are throwing a party, or are hired for an invitation only party on NYE.

Luckily, most of the parties are open to all, and you can often buy a ticket in advance (i.e. buy on the spot, or at some major ticket vendor). Besides parties at Szilveszter (New Year’s Eve in Hungarian) you can also find many pre NYE parties (Eloszilveszteri party) held on Dec 30, like the Budapest New Year Bath Party.

White Angel Club, the club of elegance: although only open biweekly in the winter season, White Angel is a hot night club in Budapest with two end of December parties related to the New Year’s Eve: party on Dec 29 and party on Dec 31, 2012. How to book / buy in advance (worth it as it is the top house club in Budapest): booking online is not available yet, but once you are in Budapest (hopefully before Dec 31), head to one of these places to buy your regular NYE or VIP tickets:

• Nyugati Nonstop Ticket Office at Nyugati Train Station by Eiffel Square, Budapest. This place is about 10 – 15 min from the city center of Budapest, take M3 blue metro line, and get off at Nyugati Railway Station.
• Westend Karma Restaurant, i.e. Karma Cafe and Restaurant in WestEnd Shopping Mall – top floor with panorama over the city, during the opening hours of the cafe. (note: there are two Karma Cafes, one on Liszt Ferenc square. But the one you need to buy NYE tickets in advance is in the Westend Mall. This shopping mall is right next to the Nyugati Train Station, about 10 – 15 min from downtown Budapest, take M3 blue metro line, and get off at Nyugati Railway Station.

Budapest Fono House New Year Event

At the Fono House in Buda (Fono Budai Zenehaz) the New Year’s Eve Folk Party starts from 8 pm with Teka Band and Cimbaliband. Anyway, from 6:30 pm you can learn Tango dances in the Budapest Fono House from Laszlo Budai. Address: 3 Sztregova Street Budapest, District XI.

FMH Budapest Community Center New Year’s Eve Program

FMH Budapest Community Center (aka the Cultural House on Fehervari Way in Budapest, in the less hectic Buda side of the city) is a real cultural hub with lots of family events, quirky clubs, dance houses, social events, etc.

On New Years Eve from 8 pm you can experience a bit of Csango culture at the Csango Szilveszter. Csangos have a well preserved Hungarian folk art, as they live and upkeep their Hungarian culture as a minority in Moldavia. Entrance fee HUF 1,500. The music will be provided by Lehel Foldi and the Csoban Band (Földi Lehel és a Csobán Zenekar). If you want to immerse in real, authentic and absolutely non-touristy Hungarian folk, this is a nice option to check out. Dance till the morning. Budapest Blues Pre New Year Party on Dec 30 2012

Just to make sure: this blues party is on Dec 30, not Dec 31 in 2012. The venue is Pecsa Cafe in Petofi Concert Hall in the City Park (quite a retro place from the 1980s). From 8 pm there will be lots of bluesrock, blues and rock. Not a touristy venue, so you may bump into mostly locals and local blues and rock.
Another Blues Pre New Year’s Eve Party is in Old Man’s Pub in downtown Budapest (District VII in 13 Akacfa Street). Blues Brothers Show Band will play the blues music.
Sorry, we do not know about a proper Blues New Year Party on Dec 31 in 2012, but do check back later just to make sure. We are continuously updating the events.
Dec 29, 2012: from 9pm in Treffort Kert Club close to the National Museum of Hungary on Muzeum korut Budapest, you can join the many young blues fans of Wild Flowers Blues Band (Vadviragok Blues Band)
