Are you planning to visit the Gellert Spa in New Year Budapest break? The historic Gellért Spa is currently closed for a major renovation and is expected to reopen in 2028. As a result, it cannot be visited during a New Year stay in Budapest, including in December or early January. If you’re looking for an alternative thermal bath experience during the New Year holiday in Budapest, several other famous baths remain open and welcoming visitors throughout December and the festive period.
Instead, we recommend visiting other thermal baths and boutique spa options in Budapest, such as Szechenyi Bath, Rudas Bath, Palatinus Bath (which is also open in winter), or smaller boutique-style spas baths.

Dec 30 Budapest Bath Party will be held in Szechenyi Baths, not in Gellert Spa. Very popular day, like in Szechenyi Bath. You can pick a less busy thermal bath like Lukacs, or the smallish Mandala Bath with excellent reviews.
- Jan 1: on New Year’s Day, the opening hours of Gellert Bath are as follows: the baths are open from 10 am to 8 pm. What a perfect way to cure any hangover and welcome the new year with healthy resolutions! You can choose from a wide range of New Year’s Day activities in Budapest, but visiting the thermal baths is a great way to chill out after a party night. Please note that this is a popular day and there will be many guests in the baths. If you would prefer a cosier, calmer place, we suggest Mandala Bath & Spa in Budapest.
